As of 2023, pet tag law requires all dogs in public places to wear a pet ID tag with the owner's name and address inscribed on it.
At a minimum, we recommend including some contact numbers too. Even our smaller, single sided pet tags can accommodate this information, as shown in this example:

The answer is no. While microchipping is a helpful tool, the Control of Dogs Order 1992 still requires a visible tag as well. Unlike a microchip, which requires specialized equipment to read, an up-to-date tag increases the likelihood of your dog being returned to you quickly.
